Fleet Mechanic

Cenvar Roofing has an immediate opening for a Fleet Mechanic, at our Lynchburg, VA branch, who will maintain the company’s vehicles as needed, to include both diesel and automotive operated engines. The successful candidate will have 5 – 10 years professional experience and be proficient in maintenance tracking and work order completion.

Fleet Mechanic Duties

  • Perform preventative, scheduled & emergency maintenance (to include breakdowns), diagnostics, repairs and inspections on light duty gas vehicles, medium & heavy duty diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, one ton duallys, forklifts & trailers that currently exist as company assets and any vehicles added to the company owned fleet in the future
  • Coordinate the repair & replacement of mechanical parts
  • Identify, repair & replace worn parts
  • Perform repair & maintenance work in accordance with factory, industry & Cenvar’s standards
  • Troubleshoot breakdowns
  • Utilization of electronic diagnostic equipment
  • Determine vehicle condition by conducting inspections & diagnostic tests
  • Test mechanical products after repair to ensure proper performance
  • Maintain vehicle records by recording services & repairs electronically or manually
  • Maintain a clean & safe work environment
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Skills & Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the Cenvar insurance policy
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5 – 10 years experience as a diesel & automotive heavy equipment mechanic, facilities or maintenance mechanic or an acceptable combination of education & experience
  • Must have a vast knowledge in diesel engine components, gasoline engines and hydraulic systems
  • The candidate must provide their own hand tools
  • Must be able to effectively and efficiently track time spent on assets
  • Must have basic knowledge of computers
  • Candidates must have good hand to eye coordination
  • Can lift/carry over 60 – 100 pounds and push/pull over 60 – 100 pounds without accommodation
  • Able to work in confined spaces without accommodation
  • This position is based in Lynchburg, however the candidate must possess a flexibility that allows them to do mobile service work at all eight Cenvar branches, as well as, branches that are added in the future
  • Ability to travel for roadside assistance as needed
  • Ability to travel to retrieve acquired assets
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations
  • Stable work history
  • Must be dependable and self motivated, professional and have the ability to work without direct supervision

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ASE Certification
  • Ability to rebuild engines & transmissions
  • Class B endorsement
  • Certification for state inspections


  • Competitive salary of $25 – $29 per hour, based on experience
